Flashback to 2007, I’m a junior in high school and I’ve had my license for several months. The novelty of driving alone has worn off, but the sweet satisfaction of blasting my music as I cruised to school is still fresh. 2007 was a time where mix tapes no burned CDs were still a thing and my center console was packed to the brim with playlists and jumbled music selections.
The moment I’m remembering was during my alternative rock and indie stage. Naturally, Paranoid Social Club was in the mix – they were a local Maine band who had garnered national attention when their hit “Wasted” graced the masses as the credit song in the movie Eurotrip. Not only was this song a teenage anthem at the time but 17 year old Kayte felt like a semi-rebellious bad ass while belting, “we all got drunk and wasted” (truthfully, it wasn’t until college that that was even a reality).
The other day as I was driving somewhere in LA, I gave my old iPod a shot at the aux cord. Lo and behold, the first notes of “Wasted” came on and I was instantly transported back. Though I rarely get “fucked up and wasted” anymore, one line from the song did resonate with me: “After hour all night psychos.” The perfect theme for a blog post!
If you’re into house music or any underground shows that go till the wee hours of he morning, you can relate to the feeling of stumbling out of a club into broad daylight with your black outfit and glittery face from the night before. I wanted to add a sense of creative fashion to that mood as I incorporated the feeling and song into the blog post. It’s a little messy, a little rock and roll, and a lot of fun. I hope you enjoy!
