Boston’s South End is a colorful, cultured neighborhood, filled with storied brownstones, local businesses, and renowned restaurants. It’s no wonder that when Marriott and American Express teamed up for their Shop Small Pop Up program, they included three local shops from my favorite part of Boston. The goal is to expose travelers to the local businesses and give them the opportunity to enjoy what the city has to offer, regardless of their schedule. By inviting local shops to pop up in the lobby of The Boston Marriott Long Wharf, Marriott and American Express are opening the doors to greater opportunities for both retailer and customer.

You don’t have to be a guest of the Marriott to enjoy the Shop Small Pop Up program! The pop-ups are open to the public until November 30th for your perusal. Can’t make it in time? Not to worry, I was able to meet up with three of the local businesses to shed some light on their visions and storefronts.

One of the shops included in the pop up is Gracie Finn. Located at 18 Union Park Street, Gracie Finn is the perfect place for anyone looking for a good gift. If you know me at all, you’re aware of my obsession with note cards. Imagine my joy when I entered the store and was greeted by some of the most beautiful unique cards I’d seen. But it’s not just note cards and unique gifts that sets Gracie Finn apart from other stores. Martha Field, the store’s owner, was kind enough to chat with me as I admired her space: “I would describe the overall aesthetic as comfortable. I wanted to make sure that it was easy to see all of the product and that it appealed to everyone.” I’d say she hit the nail on the head.

“There is a certain calm about shopping, a tranquility that I try to express with the ambiance of my store. Making a personal connection with my customers and helping them to create an emotional connection with the products is something that I value.” My experience at Gracie Finn was exactly that. The lighting and music were flattering to the space, not accosting and distracting like many stores I’ve visited. I felt instantly welcomed and free to browse at my leisure. Next time you find yourself shopping in the South End, make sure that Gracie Finn is on your list – or visit them at the Boston Marriott Long Wharf Shop Small Pop Up while you still can!
