It’s been a long while since I’ve posted a Friday Music Playlist, so I hope no one was holding their breath.

Recently I made the switch from Soundcloud to Spotify after about a year of going back-and-forth about whether or not to pay for music. It’s been about 3 months since I started my Spotify account and WOW, just WOW! While I really enjoyed the never-ending stream of music that Soundcloud offered, the level of organization, accuracy, and the sheer depth of the database on Spotify is truly astounding. As such, I’ve been rebuilding my library in this new software — but I’m finally ready to deliver my first playlist!

For this Friday Music Playlist I’ve decided to go with a collection of tasteful tracks from a triad of genres: deep house, nu school hipster rock, and heady hip hop. These three genres really cover the complete spectrum of my music taste as they all have the ability to evoke strong emotions… and isn’t that really what makes a good song? The ability to conjure emotions from one’s soul whether being enjoyed through headphones at a desk or on a dance floor.

I’ve included some artists and songs from the nu hipster rock genre that were instrumental in my music taste. My good friend and Freshman year roommate, Kent Lambie, introduced me to LCD Soundsystem, Holy Ghost!, Kid Cudi, Cut Copy, Hot Chip, the list goes on and on. Time spent digging blogs for tracks with him in 2008/09 really helped solidify my taste and the important role that music was going to play in my life over the next five-plus years. So this “Tasty” treat of a playlist is dedicated to Kent. The most stylish male taste-maker I’ve ever encountered. Keep doing you fool.

Big shout out to the @disco_naps instagram account for the dope featured image.

Keep groovin’ people,
