Recently I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about how important it is, especially as a creative, to be surrounded by inspired, motivated and innovative people. I’m talking the type of people who have the energy that gets you up and going, the kind that you feed off of and that makes you want to complete a to-do list a mile long. It’s not every day that you come by these people but trust me that they are out there.

For a while, I felt like I wasn’t finding and connecting with these people as much as I wanted to or used to. Sure I was meeting people and we had a lot of the same interests and were working towards similar goals, but there was a certain sense of magic that was lacking. You know the kind, that special explosion that happens when two people come together to create something really awesome. The kind that happens when you help each other out and support each other by offering to fill in where the other one is weak because they know you’d do the same for them.

Without these counterparts (in whatever industry you’re in), none of us would be able to get to another level. Without collaboration and looking at things differently, surely our art would fall flat and be lost in a sea of other creations. I challenge you to put yourself out there! Reach out to someone that you really admire on social media. Invite a fellow creative to coffee and exchange ideas. It may feel uncomfortable at first, but I can confidently tell you that I’ve never regret any circumstance where I’ve pushed myself to meet someone new. Create your own squad! You deserve all of the best kinds of people and support and by handpicking your own posse, you’re setting yourself up for ultimate personal and professional success.
